Montecito Ember Sculptural Bowl

Hand-carved from Catalina cherry burl, this sculptural bowl reveals the extraordinary character of the wood through its flowing form, rich grain, and deep ember-colored tones. The charred fissures, deep folds, and dark fire markings create a rugged, landscape-like quality.   The darkened areas are the result of the Thomas Fire, which swept through Santa Barbara County in 2017, leaving behind traces that have become part of the wood's story.

Artist Ray Gabaldon transforms these rare burls into one-of-a-kind vessels that honor both the beauty of the material and the landscape from which it came. Equally at home as a functional object or displayed as sculpture, each bowl is entirely unique, shaped by nature, fire, and the artist's hand.
